This is a very light fine whip dating from the mid to late 19th century

The heel bands are much finer and thinner than those seen on later spurs (please see the image that compares them to a ictorian spur by Maxwell)There are hooks or spikes at the end of each arm which wrap around the heel of the boot

Vintage Colonial Leather Whip or Cane - w1755 may25 Ref : spur289This is quite a heavy solid whip. Leather covering is similar to several pieces I have seen from North Africa. The club shaped top is wrapped in red brown leather, there is some scuffing to the end of the top. It has a braided leather collar, which may once have held a wrist strap. The stock or shaft is rigid and covered in braided red brown leather. There was probably once a leather keeper or loop at its end.. Dimensions : Length 28" (71cm)Weight
